The East Greenwich United Methodist Church is an open minded and caring community of people growing in their faith. We come together from diverse spiritual journeys. Some of us grew up with various Christian backgrounds while others had never attended a church before they walked through our doors. For some of us, this is our first experience of Christian discipleship; others have been part of the church all their lives. We are seekers, doubters, and believers. What holds us together is a common commitment to be followers of Jesus Christ.
Although it is important to stand strong in our beliefs, we humbly realize that no one person has a complete understanding of God.
As Isaiah wrote, God’s “understanding is unsearchable”(Isaiah 40:28) and he asks, “To whom then will you liken God or to what likeness compare with him?”(Isaiah 40:18).
If Biblical authors struggle in their understanding of God, we cannot claim to do more. Therefore we listen to others with prayerful minds so we might continue grow in faith and fellowship.
As Paul wrote in his letter to the Romans, we seek to be “mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine”(Romans 1:12).
We are drawn together by a common purpose: to worship and encounter God in our daily lives. We use the Bible, reason, tradition and personal experience to understand God the best we can.To achieve this end,we have created an online Bible study. Each week we post a piece of Scripture that will be the subject of the sermon on the following Sunday. We post feelings, thoughts, historical connections, beliefs, questions and anything else we can think of to help us live in the text.In order to avoid profanity or other unwelcome material, posting is restricted to those whom we know personally. If you have a question or comment you may email it to EGBIBLESTUDY@yahoo.com. Our moderator will post your questions and comments to the group.
