Children in Grades 4-8 are welcome to serve as Acolytes for the 10:00 am worship service. Acolytes have important jobs during worship and help the Pastors administer the sacraments of Baptism and Communion. “Churches have had Acolytes since ancient times. ‘Acolyte’ is taken from the ancient Greek word meaning companion, attendant or helper. An important job is lighting the candles on the altar. When the light is brought into a place of worship, people are reminded that God is with us always.” From “The Acolytes Book,” by Hoyte L. Hickman. Acolytes are instructed and prepared for service and serve in pairs on a rotating schedule throughout the year.
